“Scream and cat” (after artist Balthus)
This week’s Monster Monday is a piece for an upcoming art show entitled “The Iconoclastic Dead.” Artists selected figures alive or dead that have influenced them in some way. I chose modern artist Balthus. One of the things that attracted me most to Balthus was his philosophy pertaining to the art and artist. He insisted his paintings should be seen and not read about. He wrote this telegram regrading a 1968 retrospective of his works:
“No biographic details. Begin: Balthus is a painter of whom nothing is known. Now let us look at the pictures. Regards B.”
You have to love an artist that is willing to let the work speak for itself. I ship this piece off to Mexico tomorrow for the exhibition at Guru Gallery. Should be an amazing show, you can read more about the event here.
